Putting Faith Into Action

Week of Service 2018

The third annual Week of Service will be held April 15-21. We are planning for bigger events and even more participation. A highlight of the week will be an indoor soccer tournament to benefit pediatric cancer research. Other events include: a shoeless service at The Haven, a showing/discussion of the documentary Milwaukee 53206, sandwich making for The Guest House, sorting food at Feeding America, a visit to Northwest Lutheran School, a Jeans-at-Work day, a campus & community clean-up afternoon, a unique food drive, and service-themed chapel messages. Additionally our various Centers will be doing servant events.

History

Week of Service began over Spring Break 2016 as a way to engage our Concordia University community in celebrating and lifting up our mission statement, emphasizing that our Christian faith moves us to serve. That first edition focused mostly on our three mission trips to Appalachia, New Orleans, and Guatemala. Both the Ann Arbor and Mequon campus continued the event in 2017 and moved it away from Spring Break to 6-10 March in order to allow for greater participation. This opportunity for service has grown as every CU Center created its own servant event, and a broader range of events were held on the two main campuses. Now, we’ve established "Living Lives of Love" (based on Ephesians 5:1-2) as the theme for Week of Service.
