Student Social Work Organization

CUW’s Student Social Work Organization (SSWO) is an active student organization where students plan professional, service, and social activities.All Social Work students and those interested in Social Work are encouraged to join SSWO. SSWO is a student organization that welcomes and encourages the participation of all undergraduate and graduate students. Members have a chance to:

  • Meet and talk with other Social Work students
  • Interact with social work professionals in the field

Phi Alpha Honor Society for Social Work

The purpose of the Phi Alpha Honor Society for Social Work is to provide a closer bond among students of Social Work and to promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for Social Workers and invites into membership those who have excellence in scholarship and achievement in Social Work. Phi Alpha’s slogan that embraces their purpose is “Through Knowledge-the Challenge to Serve.” – Phi Alpha

In spring of 2016, the Department of Social Work established the Phi Pi Chapter of Phi Alpha. Membership in Phi Pi is offered to those CUW students majoring in Social Work who have:

  • Achieved junior status
  • Completed 15 credits of required SW courses
  • Achieved an overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Achieved a 3.25 total GPA in required Social Work courses
