Program Overview

In our innovative MPD program Pharmaceutical/Chemical Product Development (MPD) track, students learn by doing. We’ve teamed with local pharmaceutical and chemical product development experts to design and teach our classes.

In each track of the MPD program, you’ll apprentice with industry partners and learn in state-of-the-art analytical and pilot-scale labs (like the new hybrid classroom/cGMP lab on the Innovation Campus). In addition, you’ll be able to take advantage of networking and collaboration opportunities provided by the Interprofessional Education (IPE) program.

Whether you want to pursue a career in pharmaceuticals or chemical product development, we’re here to teach you the skills you’ll need. While pursuing your MPD degree at CUW, you’ll get to:

  • Partner with industry leaders on product development projects
  • Perform compounding work in state-of-the-art labs (cGMP; Cleanroom 100; ISO 5; USP 797 compliant)
  • Build critical-thinking and teamwork skills through case-based teaching and labs
  • Blend technical skills with business, legal, regulatory, and compliance knowledge
  • Learn how to use analytics and demand projections to make management decisions
  • Learn how to use concepts like Lean Six Sigma and sensitivity analysis to solve operations and process-optimization challenges
  • Focus on sustainability and boosting the triple bottom line: people, profit, planet
  • Learn the entrepreneurial skills needed to start your own company
  • Fill an unmet need in the industry

Dual Degree

  • Gain admission into the MPD program prior to starting your P1 year
  • Take MPD courses simultaneously with the PharmD program, beginning the P2 year (the PharmD courses must be taken face-to-face at the School of Pharmacy in Mequon, Wisconsin)
  • Earn a PharmD in four years and the MPD degree in one additional year
  • Choose an MPD concentration in pharmaceutical or chemical product development
  • Earn up to 17 credits that count towards both degrees, leaving only 31 additional credits that are exclusive to the MPD curriculum
What to Expect

You’ll learn a lot in this program—from conceptualization and design to development and marketing. Professionally, you’ll be prepared to fill an unmet need in the industry. That is, after all, what launching a new product is all about.
