We’ve partnered with Milwaukee Health Services, Inc. (MHSI) and AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW) (see Partner Sites below) to offer two PGY1 residency emphasis options: a 24-Month Practice and Academic Leadership Emphasis, and a 12-Month Urban Underserved Emphasis.

We have also partnered with Evergreen Specialty Pharmacy, Hayat Pharmacy, and altScripts Specialty Pharmacy on 12 month PGY1 community-based pharmacy residency program options.

PGY1 Residency Options

With any of our pharmacy residency options, the graduate will be prepared for success in pharmacy practice faculty positions, as well as a variety of non-academic ambulatory care practice positions. Our options give you the opportunity to customize how this is achieved.

Academic experiences will include all four roles (teaching, service, practice, and scholarship) of a faculty member’s work to optimally prepare graduates for the rigors of an academic position immediately after residency.

Option 1: 12-Month Urban Underserved Emphasis

The 12-month option offers the opportunity to advance in academic settings while still having the opportunity to deliver ambulatory clinical pharmacy service to HIV patients.
  • Residents spend most of their time in direct patient care in the medical clinic and pharmacy at the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (see Partner Sites below)
  • Time is spent once a week at CUW-SOP in teaching and learning activities that will foster academic development
  • One full day each week is allocated for administrative projects in the pharmacy and medical clinic

Option 2: 24-Month Practice and Academic Leadership Emphasis

Our 24-month option ensures you’ll have the momentum to continue advancing your practice and education development without transitioning to another program.
  • Residents spend half of their experience in patient care:
    • Year 1 at an established pharmacy practice site at a federally qualified health center
    • Year 2 developing and advancing ambulatory care services in an urban underserved site
  • Residents spend 25 percent of their time in a variety of teaching roles at CUW-SOP
  • The remaining 25 percent is allocated to academic development, including completion of a Master’s in Education, with emphasis on teaching and learning

Option 3: 12-Month PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency

The 12-month option offers the opportunity to advance in academic settings while still having the opportunity to deliver community-focused clinical pharmacy service to the specialty pharmacy population
  • Residents spend most of their time providing direct patient care at Evergreen Pharmacy, Hayat Pharmacy, or altScripts Specialty Pharmacy (see Partner Sites below).
  • Time is spent once a week at CUW-SOP in teaching and learning activities that will foster academic development
