Graduation announcement

Based on the current situation with the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the university has decided that in-person commencement exercises will not take place this May. We know how important commencement is to our graduates, their families, and the Concordia community. It is important to us, too. Commencement marks the moment Concordia’s mission moves from campus to the world. We are so proud of you and long to support and to celebrate with you.

We know this is not the memory you planned to make as you complete your academic journey. However, we remain certain of our common bond as Concordians, hearts together. You are always a Concordian. We hope to welcome you home not only for the December commencement, but often over the years as you return again and again as a loved alumnus.

What should I do with my cap and gown?

If you’ve already ordered and received your cap and gown, you’re welcome to keep it. If you join us for December’s commencement exercises, you’ll need it then. Plus, we hope that you’ll wear it to celebrate your accomplishment with your family sometime this spring.

  • All caps and gowns that were scheduled to ship to the CU bookstore have been cancelled. There will be no charge to students.

  • If you have rented your cap and gown, please communicate with your department’s contact to return the rental to campus.

  • Students that ordered caps and gowns to ship to home will need to call Jostens’ customer service phone number at 1-800-854-7464 and request a refund. Students would be responsible for the cost of shipping to return an order. Jostens will offer refunds; however, due to health reasons and the current pandemic situation, Jostens has shared that they cannot accept orders that have been opened.

  • Orders that have been placed to ship to home, but have not yet shipped, have been placed on hold. Please contact Jostens’ customer service at 1-800-854-7464 to indicate if you prefer to cancel your order or have it shipped.
What about the graduation fee charged to my account?

The graduation fee covers multiple expenses, including diplomas, diploma covers, and shipping costs. Because of this, the charge will remain on your account; however, if you decide to participate in December’s commencement exercises, you will not be charged a second time.

Will I still get a diploma?

Cancellation of the commencement ceremonies does not impact the student’s ability to earn their degree. After your final grades are received and the Registrar confirms completion of your academic program, your degree will be conferred and the diploma will be mailed. Your diploma will be sent via mail to the student address on file. Please make sure your current address is on file here.
