Congratulations and God’s blessings to you as you finalize the plans to become a Concordia University Wisconsin graduate!

Congratulations, CUW Graduate! All of us at Concordia feel privileged and proud to be part of your life story, and we encourage you to take a moment to reflect and rejoice. You have done it, and what you have done is a big deal!

To celebrate the significant academic achievements of our graduates, each spring and fall we host commencement. At Concordia University Wisconsin, we celebrate commencement in May (Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at 1:30 p.m.) and December (1:30 p.m.). While the ceremonies are not mandatory, candidates for graduation are encouraged to attend commencement. Graduates may invite up to 6 guests to attend the ceremony (tickets are required).

Graduation checklist

Prospective Graduate & Undergraduate graduates, whether you plan to attend the ceremony or not, please review the steps below to properly prepare for graduation.

Step 1: Review your graduation status and complete the Graduation Application

This is an essential step to acquiring your diploma. Whether you plan to attend the ceremony or not, all prospective graduates must complete the Graduation Application. Please note, the last day to complete the Graduation Application is October 18, 2019. Applications completed after the deadline will result in the graduate's name NOT appearing in the graduation program.

Graduation Applications are now completed through Banner Self-Service. To access the Graduation Application through Banner Self Service, complete the following steps:

  • Log into the portal
  • Click the Student tab
  • Click Banner Self-Service

Step 2: Pay graduation fee

All graduates pay a $65 graduation fee, whether you plan to walk in the commencement ceremony or not. Your account will be billed following the completion of your Graduation Application.

Step 3: Order your cap and gown

All caps, gowns, and tassels will be ordered through Jostens. The deadline to order your cap and gown for December commencement is October 24th.

You may select to have your cap and gown shipped to home or to the Concordia University Bookstore on the Mequon Campus. You will be able to pick up your cap and gown from the Bookstore beginning December 9th through graduation day (the Bookstore is open 11:00am-4:00pm on December 14). For Bookstore hours, please visit the University Bookstore website. Students who have their cap and gown shipped to the Bookstore can expect to pay for their cap and gown at the time of pick up. When you receive your cap and gown, remove all items immediately to make sure everything is present, and hang up your gown to undo any wrinkling.

If you possess a cap and/or gown and need to only order a single item (i.e. tassel), please visit or contact the Concordia University Bookstore directly to place an order by October 24th.

Step 4: Attend a Caps and Cake Celebration

Congratulations on completing your degree at Concordia University! Join us for a Caps and Cake event, designed to celebrate YOU and applaud your accomplishments. During Caps and Cake events, you will have the opportunity to commemorate your accomplishments and celebrate with your peers.

You're welcome to attend any of the Caps and Cake events scheduled. We look forward to celebrating with you!

Commencement Ceremony Check-In

Students are expected to check-in at the Todd Wehr Auditorium prior to commencement between Noon and 1:00 p.m. on the day of graduation. Ceremony instructions will be shared multiple times throughout the staging time. Please listen to these instructions carefully. There is no graduation rehearsal.

When you arrive to Todd Wehr Auditorium:

  1. We ask you please leave your personal items (including coats and purses) with your family and friends or leave them in the auditorium, as it will be locked during the graduation ceremony. Your guests should then go to the Field House entrance.
  2. Bring your academic attire with you to the auditorium for staging.
  3. Check-in and receive your name card. Students may make phonetic markings on their cards (for our announcers).
  4. Commencement staff will lead you into the Field House at the appropriate time where a formal processional will take place. You will be ushered to your appropriate seat.
  5. Staff will guide you to the stage at the appropriate time to receive your degree. Take your name card that you received during the check-in process. As you approach the stage, hand your name card to the announcer and begin walking across the stage. A photo will be taken of you as you as you receive the diploma cover and after you receive the diploma cover.
  6. Please plan to meet your guests in a preferred location after the ceremony.

Learn more about the graduation ceremony here.
