One of the most frequently asked questions from students moving into the CUW residence halls is “What should I bring?” The great news is, we’ve taken care of the big things. All rooms have a bed, mattress, dresser/wardrobe, desk, desk chair, refrigerator and microwave. Below are some things to consider bringing to campus. (Remember to talk with your roommate about items you can share, to avoid bringing duplicates.)

What to bring:
  • Shower caddy to take your toiletries to and from the shower
  • Toiletries
  • Dishes (microwave & refrigerator in each room)
  • Laundry basket, detergent, dryer sheets
  • Trash can
  • Basic cleaning supplies
  • Clothes hangers
  • Bed linens (Twin Extra-Long), blankets, pillows
  • Towels
  • Earbuds/headphones (so you won't disturb your roommate)

The other question that is often asked is “Are there things I can't bring to campus?” The short answer is “Yes,” but rest assured, it won’t deflect from your residence life experience.

Below are items that are against university policy, and you should not bring them with you to campus:
  • Alcohol (including cooking wines). CUW is a dry campus, and alcohol is not allowed regardless of age
  • Appliances: A general guideline is that an appliance is prohibited if it is rated over six amps (700 watts). Check out this list for examples.
  • Extension cords (Power strips with circuit breakers are permitted)
  • Candles, incense, or anything with an open flame
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Pets (besides fish in a tank less than 15 gallons), but most definitely bring a photo -we’d love to see them!
