One of the most frequently asked questions from students moving into the CUW residence halls is “What should I bring?” The great news is, we’ve taken care of the big things. All rooms have a bed, mattress, dresser/wardrobe, desk, desk chair, refrigerator and microwave. Below are some things to consider bringing to campus. (Remember to talk with your roommate about items you can share, to avoid bringing duplicates.)

What to bring:
  • Alarm clock
  • Shower caddy to take your toiletries to and from the shower
  • Toiletries
  • Dishes
  • Laundry basket, detergent, dryer sheets
  • Winter clothing
  • Trash can
  • Flashlight
  • Basic cleaning supplies
  • Bible
  • Clothes hangers
  • Bed linens (Twin Extra-Long), blankets, pillows
  • Towels
  • Backpack or book bag
  • Television, stereo and headphones (so you won't disturb your roommate)
  • Computer
  • Key ring·

The other question that is often asked is “Are there things I can't bring to campus?” The short answer is “Yes,” but rest assured, it won’t deflect from your residence life experience.

Below are items that are against university policy, and you should not bring them with you to campus:
  • Alcohol (including cooking wines). CUW is a dry campus, and alcohol is banned even for students of age.
  • Appliances: hot plate, electric skillet, George Foreman Grill, grill, toaster oven, space heater, air conditioner, electric blanket, etc. (If you’re in doubt, just ask!)
  • Halogen lamps, including "spider lamps.” (They get too hot.)
  • Extension cords (Power strips with circuit breakers and a short cord are permitted.)
  • Candles, incense, or anything with an open flame
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Anything that would require you to remove your window screen (such as an AC unit, satellite dish)
  • Pets (besides fish in a tank less than 15 gallons), but most definitely bring a photo! We’d love to see them.
